The Office of the Independent Assessor (OIA) has been established to assess compensation under the Merlo Davidson class action Settlement Agreement approved by the Federal Court on May 30, 2017. To assess applications for compensation, the OIA will collect personal information from claimants and/or the RCMP and/or third parties. This information will only be used and/or disclosed in a manner consistent with the terms of the Settlement Agreement which sets out stringent confidentiality measures.
The OIA has created a secure system through which claimants may submit application forms. All information submitted to the OIA's servers will be kept confidential. The online application form is designed to allow each claimant to fill out information over time before submitting. Information inputted into the online claim form before the form is submitted will also be stored on the OIA's servers.
By submitting an application form you are agreeing that your personal information may be used to assess your claim for compensation under the Settlement Agreement, and where the OIA deems necessary, disclosed to experts who have been identified to assist the Assessor, subject to the requirements set out in the Settlement Agreement and the Declaration and Authorization found at the end of the Application Form.
The OIA will contact you based on the information you will provide, including your preferred means of receiving communications and/or correspondence from us. We rely on you to notify us of any change to contact information.
All personal information collected by the OIA will be stored on secure servers located in Canada.
All personal information collected by the OIA will be destroyed six months after the last claim payment is made under the Settlement Agreement.
